GET BACK IN THE GAME
Getting sidelined by injury is difficult, but we want our athletes, weekend warriors, and fitness enthusiasts to know that it doesn’t have to stop your activity or pursuit of your performance goals. We find what you are able to do, given your injury, and help you to develop that component of fitness while you rehabilitate. As you recover, we want to ensure a seamless transition between rehabilitation and performance, which is why we offer both physical therapy and performance training. Many rehabilitation programs stop short of getting an athlete to their peak performance, whether it is due to insurance regulations or lack of resources/knowledge. We refuse to believe these things should be barriers to your success. Our model ensures that as you return to your fitness goals, you are supported through the transition from pain free movement to strong performance. It is our duty to get all athletes back in the game to their top level.

Our PTs work hand in hand with our strength coaches to ensure you are taken care of from start to finish. We feel passionate about ensuring that each patient is guided through their rehab and given coaching on how to further enhance their strength, power, and agility through our performance training programs.

Our team of physical therapists have additional training in the following specialty areas and techniques to enhance your recovery experience:

Biomechanical Running Evaluation

Running is a very complex movement pattern. Just because we can run, doesn’t mean that we are running efficiently. Because of the repetitive and strenuous nature of running, runners often combat various injuries that can be very debilitating. Although running injuries are common, they should not be accepted as an inevitable consequence. We help runners by assessing their movement when they aren’t running, analyzing their technique when they do run, and discussing how training may be influencing their overall experience. Simple technique changes, or learning more about an exercise program that addresses a runner’s specific imbalances, can have a big impact on your performance.

Running evaluations can be a part of a physical therapy visit if you are recovering from an injury, or can be offered separately for non-injured runners who would benefit from a more individualized technical assessment to improve their efficiency and performance.

Overhead Athletes

Overhead/throwing athletes, as seen in baseball/softball, racquet sports, volleyball and swimming, are at risk for repetitive stress injuries due to the asymmetric nature and aggressiveness of their sport. Our philosophy and education at Momentum enables us to make a big impact on these athletes because we are able to look at the athlete as a whole. We break down movement patterns specific to each athlete’s sport and correct muscle imbalances and faulty mechanics that cause pain, dysfunction, and poor performance. Because we understand the special attention and knowledge needed in the performance spectrum, we work closely with our athletes, their parents, coaches, and support team as they return to sport. We want to ensure our athletes are technically sound prior to returning to their sport, to reduce injury risk and reach their performance potential.

Graston Technique

Our PTs are trained in the Graston Technique, which uses specialized instruments designed to detect and treat excessive scar tissue and fascial restrictions within the soft tissues in the body (i.e. muscles, tendons, ligaments, etc.), promote blood flow to a given site, and help regulate how active or underactive a muscle is at a given location. These things can limit range of motion, flexibility, and strength, ultimately impacting your overall movement quality. Addressing these impairments will allow you to feel less pain and achieve optimal movement more quickly.

RockTape

RockTape is a kinesiology taping method that is designed to help with a variety of issues including: pain, stiffness, swelling, circulation, muscle over/under activation, and postural dysfunction. RockTape is an elastic tape that, when applied to a certain muscle/area of the body, can help you move better with less pain/restrictions. Clinicians at Momentum use RockTape as one of the many tools in our toolbox to help you feel better faster.

Frequently Asked Questions

What should I expect on my first physical therapy visit?
  • You and your physical therapist will discuss your current complaint/injury, your past medical/movement histories, your lifestyle and current challenges, and what your expectations and hopes are for physical therapy.
  • We will evaluate your painful site, as well as perform a whole body assessment to learn how different body parts or movements may be influencing your presentation.
  • Throughout the session, you will be educated on positioning, exercises, and management techniques that will assist in your rehabilitation process.
  • You will be provided a home exercise program to begin addressing what was found in the evaluation.
Do you accept insurance?
  • Yes, we accept all major commercial insurances, Medicare, Motor Vehicle Accident, and Workers’ Compensation. Self-pay options are available as well.

How long is a typical visit?
  • Evaluations are 60 minutes
  • Treatment sessions are 45 minutes
  • You will work with the same physical therapist for all of your visits.

Do parents need to sit in on visits?
  • Parents can attend visits with their children. If you or your child feel the session would be better one-on-one, we will make sure parents are informed about what was covered at the end each session.
